Appliance error code library
Find your code, see what the manufacturer says it means, and what to try before you call. Meanings come from each manufacturer’s own support pages.
A code tells you which system the control board thinks has failed, not always which part. A drain code, for example, can be a sock in the pump filter or a dead pump. Try the first step listed, then call if the code comes back.
Codes differ between model families, even within one brand. When your manual disagrees with this page, trust the manual.
Samsung washer error codes
Some codes mean different things on different models; dC, for example, is listed as both a door error and an unbalance error. Check your manual.
| Code | Meaning | What to do first |
|---|---|---|
4C, 4E, nF | Not filling | Open both water valves fully; check inlet hoses for kinks and the hose screens for sediment. |
4C2, 4E2, CE, nF1 | Hot/cold water error | Check the hoses are on the correct hot and cold valves, and that hot water is reaching the machine. |
nd, 5E, SE, 5C, SC | Not draining | Clean the drain pump filter and check the drain hose. If it still will not drain, the pump likely needs service. |
1E, LE, 1C, LC, LC1 | Water level or leak error | Look under and around the washer for water. Stop using it if you find a leak. |
OE, 0E, OC, 0C | Overflow | Turn it off and close the water valves. Often a stuck inlet valve or oversudsing. |
dS, dE, dC, dL, FL, LO | Door error | Close the door firmly and check nothing is caught in the seal. A recurring code points to the door lock. |
Ub, Ur, UE, U6 | Unbalanced load | Redistribute the load. Wash bulky single items with a couple of towels. |
Sd, SUd, 5d | Excessive suds | Use HE detergent in the measured amount. The washer pauses to break down suds. |
3E, 2E, 9C1, 9E1, PF, UC | Voltage error | Plug directly into a wall outlet, not an extension cord. Call if it keeps appearing. |
CL | Child lock on | Release it as your manual describes, usually by holding the marked button or button pair for a few seconds. |
