With LG, the refrigerator question that matters most is the compressor, because LG’s warranty treats it very differently from the rest of the fridge. Check that before paying for a sealed-system repair.

LG refrigerators that stop cooling

Consumer Reports’ 2026 reliability report says LG French door, side-by-side and bottom-freezer refrigerators are more prone to compressor failures than competitors’ models (Consumer Reports). A 2020 class action settlement covered certain models made 2014 to 2017; its claim deadline passed in January 2021, and LG denied wrongdoing.

Not every warm LG fridge has a bad compressor. Fans, the defrost system and the control board produce the same symptom, and they are much cheaper. If it is the compressor, LG’s warranty may still cover the part through year ten on linear and inverter compressors, leaving you to pay labor. Find your purchase date before the technician quotes.

Does LG cover a failed refrigerator compressor?

The sealed system and compressor are covered for 5 years, parts and labor. Linear and inverter compressors get parts-only coverage in years 6 to 10, so you pay labor. Check your warranty document for your model.

What does OE mean on an LG washer?

The washer cannot drain. Clean the drain pump filter behind the lower front access panel and check the drain hose.

Can I still claim from the LG refrigerator compressor settlement?

No. The claim deadline was January 11, 2021.
